what are you dreaming about?

I had a crazy dream last night where I went with a friend to look at office furniture.   At the furniture store, which had an outside patio, we saw a baby giraffe.  We decided it would be a good idea to kidnap the giraffe.  (WTF?!?)  We snuck out the back patio with the giraffe, stuffed him/her in the car and drove off.

The only reason why I remembered this dream is because Pete happened to be going to bed at that time and woke me up.

Here’s what DreamMoods has to say:

Giraffe

To see a giraffe in your dream, suggests that you need to consider the overall picture. Take a broader view on your life and where it is headed.

Now I need to figure out what that means for me in my life…  Any ideas?

You know it’s Monday…

… when the Holiday cards you slaved over all morning get soaked in the mailbox from the torrential rain.  Runny ink everywhere… (sigh).

Friday Bullets!

Hey peeps… pardon me if I fall asleep midstream writing this blog entry.  I got 4 hours of sleep last night.   Let’s face it, 4 hours of sleep typically means that a rip-roaring fun time was had the night before.

…. so true in this case!

  • My birthday was on November 26 and I’m STILL reaping the rewards.  My wonderful, generous pal, Ayelet bought me a ticket to Live 105′s “Not So Silent Night” concert, which was held last night at Oracle Arena.  MAN – OH – MAN!  What a fun time.  I am a lucky girl.  We listened to some fantastic music from 6:30 to 11:30 (we cheated - per my request – and left before final act was over, but we sailed on out of the parking lot… which is a beautiful thing).  Here was the lineup:  Jack’s Mannequin, Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, Death Cab for Cuties & The Killers.  Jack’s Mannequin = 3 stars.  I hadn’t heard of them before, but it is so refreshing to see a fresh-faced group “working it” and sounding damn good.  Franz Fedinand = 4 stars.  I hadn’t heard of them either.  Loved the unique sound, Euro-style vibe and presence and I will be downloading their music on iTunes soon.  Bloc Party = 1 star.  Um, no.  I could not wait for them to get off the stage.  I could not understand a word the lead singer sung and the music was quite uninspiring.  Death Cab for Cuties = 4 stars.  YES!!  I am a fan.  The Killers = 5 stars.  Icing on the cake, they were awesome.  I liked The Killers before, I now love them.  It was a fantastic performance.  AND I got a cool hoody to wear this winter.  : )
  • I received an olive branch today.  I am truly not sure if it was indeed an “olive branch”, but I WANT to consider it an olive branch, so please just give me that.  My mom called and now a date has been set for us to have lunch.  If you are in the dark… please review this post.   There have been issues and our relationship has not been right in over a month… which is a LONG time for me.  I love my mom and I’m just going to go ahead and accept this “olive branch”, even though I recognize that the “underlying issues” have not been resolved.

Heading out now to enjoy a fabulous Chicken Cobb Salad at Sideboard (I have been having dreams about this salad for a couple of months now) then Pete wants to pick out a tree.  In light of his work situation, I’m just going to go ahead an accommodate him.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Packing for Boulder, CO…

… hopefully!

I woke up this morning, having enjoyed a fantastic evening with Ayelet.  We went to the Live 105, “Not so Silent Night” concert at Oracle Arena.  Awesome concert by the way.  I’ll write more about that later.

Anyways, this morning I woke up thinking, “What’s our next adventure?”

A-ha! What do I find in my inbox?  … details about a Kirtsy contest!!

Given Ayelet and I are major league social networking babes (okay okay, SHE’s a major league social networking babe, I pretty much follow in her shadow)… this contest is right up our alley.

Wish me luck everyone!  I’ve got my mittens and leg warmers ready to go…

Apparently the CA lotto MEGA millions currently stands at $207 million.  Getting ready to head to 7-11 as we speak.

Would you take the lump sum or annual payments?

S.A.D. it’s real, folks

I have been wondering why I have been in such a funk lately.  Today is the first non-foggy day we’ve experienced in well over a week, here in the East Bay.  Is it a coincidence that I have felt the most normal, happy, positive, etc… than I have felt in a long time?  I have known about SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and I do feel it is a real phenomenon.

There have been studies done on people who live in areas that are “sun deficient” in the winter (ie: Norway, Sweden, etc)…  Real conclusions have been derived that those who live in ”sun deficient” regions are more inclined to suffer from depression.  We in the S.F. Bay Area are spoiled ’cause we have to deal with cold temps in the low range of 30-50 degrees, depending on where in the Bay Area you reside… which is nothing compared to the temps on the East Coast.

But, regardless of the temperature, I do feel like the phenomenon is real: the less the sunlight = the greater the inclination toward sadness & depression.

Luckily, here in California, those days are numbered.

Everyone’s an expert

Lately I’ve noticed a trend amongst friends & family who seem to believe they have “all the answers.”   It’s frustrating when they believe they know best… when in reality?  not so much.

I spent quite a bit of time planning a NYE celebration with friends.  Let me tell y’all, dealing with folks in the service industry is quite different from dealing with folks in the corporate world.  They say they will send you an email, they don’t.  They say they’ll call you back, they don’t.  After calling 25 or so restaurants in the city and virtually getting nowhere, I finally found a place where the receptionist provided thorough information and could accommodate our 10+ size group at a reasonable price… the restaurant gets great reviews as well.  All is good until I get feedback from the peanut gallery: “the restaurant is too far away” and “I want to be close to the water.”  Unfortunately you just can’t please everyone.  I decided to let someone else figure out plans, as I just don’t want to deal with the dissatisfaction.

Yesterday, I received an article forwarded to me from a friend.  The article suggested that first time home buyers should get going NOW.  I am sure this friend meant well, but really? does she know what is right for my husband and I right NOW?  Definitely not.  I am sure my annoyance is reactionary based on receiving so much unwarranted advice from family members, but I can’t help how I feel.

Sometimes I wish I could tell people to butt out.  Unfortunately I am too damn nice.  Is there a nice way to tell someone to butt out?

Friday Bullets!

I know, I know, I missed last Friday’s bullets.  That’s ‘cuz it was the day after Thanksgiving and I was in L.A. thinking about the beach instead of my computer.

I have caught some kind of flu bug.  I woke up this morning feeling groggy. But when Lucy is breathing heavy on my face to get up for “walkie”, I just go for the flow.  Well, “walkie” this morning was cut short and I suffered the entire time.  All I could think about was getting back in bed & sleep.  And I did… very uncharacteristic of me.

Anyways…

  • Our trip to L.A. was a blast.  I’ll try to write a separate entry to share the notable experiences, but the funniest thing for me is how all of the natives kept complaining about how “freezing” it was, as they were decked out in wool coats and ski boots.   Hilarious considering it was 70 degrees!   It kind of made me happy because I thought *I* was a wimp.
  • My boss just hired a new sales rep.  This sales rep used to work for one of our partners, but he got fired when the company was acquired by a by a big ol beast of a software company.  For some reason my boss feels indebted to this guy.  I telling myself that this does not affect me and to focus, but I can’t deny that red flags are waving and I am worried about my own employment status.  My boss does have a history of bringing in new employees that end up replacing older employees.  Another part of me thinks this guy will fall flat on his face.  Guess all I can do is ride it out and do the best that I can to ensure my own job security.
  • I had fun plans scheduled for the weekend.  Poker party at the boss’ house tonight, a tree trimming party at Barbara’s tomorrow night and dinner with the gals at Va De Vi in Walnut Creek on Sunday.  I bailed out on poker and cancelled a hair appointment and I’m waiting to see how I feel tomorrow before I decide what I’m doing the rest of the weekend.  I will be sad if I miss out on all of the fun weekend plans.  The Holiday season is already in full swing!
  • I have gotten myself hooked on Friday Night Lights.  After sleeping as much as I could sleep today, I started watching the first season and I’m a fan.  Similar to Mad Men, Friday Night Lights offers viewers a glimpse into a completely world: the world according to a small town in Texas where life revolves around football.  The show is shot in documentary style which really aids character development.  I may need to go get Season 2 & 3 soon as I’m plowing through these episodes quickly.  Oh, yeah, there is some eye candy as well….  grrrrrrr!
  • The Giants are really pissing me off right now.  They just signed a new Shortstop, Edgar Renteria, to a two year deal.  Apparently he’s a “proven hitter” but I feel like he’s another “over the hill” journeyman who is not going to make a big impact on the team.  Is he really a huge improvement over Omar Vizquel (my boyfriend in another life)?  I don’t understand why Brian Sabean, the General Manager, goes after these old men time and time again.  ALSO, they decided to raise ticket prices by $2/ticket.  HELLO?!?!?  Newsflash!  We are in an economic recession.  That is completely rude, especially given The Giants performance in recent years.  Luckily we are not renewing our Season tickets, so it won’t affect us.

Anyways, have a great weekend everyone.  Hopefully I will be healthy on Monday!
