Yep, that’s how I’ve been feeling… ever since it was announced that Giants’ pitcher Tim Lincecum would be the starting pitcher for the National League in tonight’s All-Star Game in St. Louis.
He is, after all, OUR phenom. Nicknamed “The Freak” and “Sea Biscuit”, Lincecum is one of the most talented, electric & just plain filthy pitchers in baseball today. Since I’ve only really been a fan of baseball since 2001 or so, I have no comparisons to make with other pitchers from history…. but I’ve heard others compare him to Greg Maddux, Roy Oswalt and John Montefusco.
All I can say, is when he pitches, the world pays attention.
It’s awesome that he’s gotten the Nation’s attention as well. Love hearing from my nephews in New Jersey that they wish they could have Lincecum on their “fantasy baseball” teams.
So, this is my blog tribute and good luck wish to “my boy” Lincecum!
I’m sure that Charlie Manuel, the manager for the National league team, will be tempted to keep Lincecum in the game for as long as possible… but he’s OURS and we need him to pitch well this weekend. Although it would be really fun to watch Lincecum make a bunch of All-Star American league players look silly.
Oh, here’s a fun picture that @sf_giants twitpic’d today: http://twitpic.com/ac4hq. Roy Halladay, who will pitch for the American league wears a suit… while Lincecum wears a beanie cap. Love it!
Be sure to catch the game at 5:00pm PST…
